By Meredith Samson
I LOVE this pack. I use it for trail runs/long hikes and equestrian endurance rides. I like how securely it cinches down. It holds 3 liters of liquid, isn't bulky, doesn't bounce too much, and has easy to access zip pockets on the waist belt that hold phone, lip balm, sunscreen, gel or snack. There is a small accessory pocket on the back that holds my keys and I.D. If you're looking for something that will carry a complete change of clothes and a 6 pack, forget it. On the other hand if you want a minimalist pack with more than enough features that doesn't weigh you down..this is it! The only thing I added was an insulation sleeve for the drink tube.

By Elizabeth Ferrell
This particular Camelbak was designed for trail running so, compared to traditional Camelbaks this item has a little more padding and a lot more attention to keeping the pack stationary. Design thought was put into how the bite valve can be accessed (2 different ways and on either side) so you'll have options based on what's most comfortable to you. Its also got a few small pockets capable of simultaneously holding an energy bar, a multitool, a compass, a whistle, a headlamp, keys, and a cell phone.
Finally, Camelbak has updated the bladder itself since the last time I purchased one 3 years ago. This bladder is easier to fill, easier to clean, easier to dry, easier to open and close, and the bite valve has been improved as well. By the way, I would not have considered any of those things to have been a problem or an issue on the older one, so the fact that the product has been improved across-the-board really speaks to the end-user attention to detail for which Camelbak is famous.
So -- for all the reasons above -- even though he owns a hydration-compatable technical backpack, a pack-style Camelbak suitable for dayhikes, and a bunch of different Nalgene bottles of various shapes and size, unless the entire event is hiking-based, my Scout prefers to pair the Camelbak Octane XCT with a fanny pack that can be dropped when the hiking stops and the activities begin as his go-to setup for hydration.
On two seperate occassions, upon picking my Scout up from a campout, he has -- unsolicited and months after receiving it -- taken the time to tell me how much he loves this item. Between boots, and technical clothing, different rated sleeping bags, and different styles of sleeping pads, and muliple backpacks, etc... my son has used and experienced -- and probably taken for granted -- a lot of gear. The fact that he doesn't take this one for granted, to me, speaks volumes.
Truly a great product.

By Myriam Veldhuizen
This is a great hydration pack. The only thing is that I started feeling the shoulder strap rubbing against my neck after about 30 minutes of running. It became worst (after about an 1h) to eventually numb out the spot it was rubbing :/ Simply wearing a higher collar running shirt will do it though. It holds very well on my back during long runs (2h+) Very good purchase!
